Newcastle United have contacted the representatives of Liverpool s Xherdan Shaqiri over a possible move this summer, according to Dominic King of the Daily Mail.
Liverpool signed Shaqiri from Stoke City in 2018 for a reported fee of £12 million, and it was clear from the start his role in Jurgen Klopp s team would be a fringe one. His contribution has been very important he scored and assisted some vital goals, and overall did a good job when called upon. However, it was never to be expected he would be able to take the place of any one of the front three in the starting XI, and it is believed he is no longer happy on the bench.
For their part, Liverpool seem to understand his position and they won t be standing in his way, should the initial talks develop into something more tangible. King adds that Shaqiri would be interested in a switch to St James Park, providing that the proposed takeover goes ahead.
