Bayern ready to extend Sule´s contract amid Chelsea links but Rummenigge warns of COVID-19 impact

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the Bundesliga champions are ready to extend Niklas Sule s contract amid reported interest from Chelsea.

Sule has been linked with Premier League giants Chelsea, who are led by German head coach Thomas Tuchel, after Bayern announced the signing of RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.

Germany international defender Sule, 25, is contracted to Bundesliga and Champions League holders Bayern until 2022.

Asked about Sule s future in Munich after Bayern s shock 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, Rummenigge told ZDF: Basically he is a German national player and the philosophy of our club is that we always want the good German national players at Bayern.

He now has another year of contract and it will…

Boban hints at Milan stay for Donnarumma

AC Milan chief football officer Zvonimir Boban believes goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma will remain with the Serie A giants.

Donnarumma, 20, has been linked with a move away from San Siro, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested in the shot-stopper.

But Boban suggested the Italy international would stay in Milan, although accepted the situation could also change.

[Paolo] Maldini said that we are happy to have probably the best goalkeeper in the world, surely the best talent in the world in that role, Boban said on Tuesday, via CalcioMercato.

For the moment, he remains. He can change but it is not said that he will leave.

Donnarumma joined Milan as a 14-year-old in 2013 and has already made 164 first-team appearances.

Ten Hag ´hurt´ by ´tough´ Community Shield defeat

Erik ten Hag says Manchester United have to hurt after suffering a penalty shootout defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday.

Alejandro Garnacho had given the Red Devils the lead in the 82nd minute before Bernardo Silva s equaliser seven minutes later forced penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Both sides had a spot-kick saved to force sudden death before Jonny Evans missed penalty set up Manuel Akanji to secure the trophy for Pep Guardiola s side with a 7-6 victory in the shootout.

United also had a Bruno Fernandes goal ruled out for offside, while Marcus Rashford hit the post, and though Ten Hag was largely pleased with the performance from his side, he admitted that made it tougher to accept the result.

Tough result to take, Ten Hag told I…

Ten Hag reunited with De Ligt at Man Utd after Bayern transfer confirmed

Manchester United have bolstered their defence with the arrival of Matthijs De Ligt from Bayern Munich, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The defender is reunited with former manager Erik ten Hag, signing a five-year contract with the Red Devils in a deal reportedly worth around £42million.

De Ligt made 73 appearances in all competitions in two years at the Bundesliga giants, scoring five goals in that time.

He finished the season strongly, but struggled with injuries at the start, with his absence keenly felt in the league as Bayern conceded an average of 1.8 goals without him in the starting line-up compared to 1.1 with him.

De Ligt was a key figure at Ajax during Ten Hag s tenure and was made the youngest-ever captain in the club s history during that t…

Neymar deal demonstrates PSG´s ambition, says Pochettino

Paris Saint-Germain have reinforced their ambitions with the new four-year deal signed by superstar forward Neymar, according to Mauricio Pochettino.

After months of speculation, Neymar finally committed his future to PSG on Saturday.

The world s most expensive footballer joined the club in 2017 and has helped them to three successive Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France triumphs and the Coupe de la Ligue twice.

However, Neymar has been unable to propel PSG to Champions League glory, while his attempts to win the Ballon d Or – often cited as one of the major factors behind his big-money move from Barcelona – have also proved fruitless so far.

Nevertheless, tying the 29-year-old down to a new contract has been a priority for PSG, who are also hoping…

Sassuolo 1 Inter 0: Falcinelli compounds Nerazzurri´s nightmare before Christmas

Inter s nemesis Diego Falcinelli scored in a 1-0 win for Sassuolo as the Nerazurri lost for the second match in succession, handing the initiative to title rivals Napoli and Juventus.

Falcinelli had struck just three times in 21 Serie A appearances since netting a brace for Crotone against Inter in April, but he crashed home a brave header at the expense of his favourite opponents in the first half at Mapei Stadium on Saturday.

Mauro Icardi saw a penalty saved after the break as Inter, whose 3-1 loss to Udinese last time out was their first defeat of the league season, battled in vain to force an equaliser.

A second consecutive loss for Luciano Spalletti s team leaves them third in the table, five points behind Maurizio Sarri s leaders Napoli, who saw off Sampdor…

Manchester United receive interest in Mason Greenwood

Manchester United have received interest in Mason Greenwood after the decision was taken for the homegrown forward to leave Old Trafford, the PA news agency understands.

The 21-year-old has been suspended by the club since January 30, 2022 over allegations relating to a young woman after images and videos were posted online.

Greenwood was facing charges including attempted rape and assault until the Crown Prosecution Service announced six and a half months ago that the case had been discontinued.

The forward remained suspended by United throughout that period and the club announced on Monday it had been mutually agreed he would leave following an internal investigation.

United are working with Greenwood’s family to help find the right move and PA unders…

Transfer deadline day: Chelsea still chasing Fernandez with Jorginho set for Arsenal move

There s only a matter of hours to go before the January transfer window shuts for good, with multiple moves already in the can and plenty potentially still to come.

Chelsea s pursuit of Argentina s World Cup-winning midfielder Enzo Fernandez for a Premier League record fee from Benfica remains up in the air.

The Blues look set to confirm the exit of Italy s Euro 2020 victor Jorginho to rivals Arsenal though before time runs out at the end of play on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Manchester City have confirmed the loan exit of Joao Cancelo to Bayern Munich, while Inter s raid for Manchester United s Harry Maguire looks a no-go.

But the Red Devils are hopeful of sealing a deal for Bayern s Marcel Sabitzer, following a potential season-ending injury for Christian Eri…

Stoke City 1 Arsenal 0: Jese hits winner in dream debut

Jese Rodriguez scored the winner on a dream debut as Stoke City downed Arsenal with a controversial 1-0 victory at the bet365 Stadium.

The forward, loaned by Stoke from Paris Saint-Germain, struck early in the second half with an impressive finish as part of a lively performance.

Arsenal were aggrieved when Alexandre Lacazette had an equaliser ruled out for offside in a contentious decision.

And that moment proved decisive as the Gunners were unable to repeat their heroics from last week s opener against Leicester City to salvage a result.

The two teams now have three points from their first two matches. Arsenal, who were without the injured Alexis Sanchez, have not won their first two games in a Premier League season since 2009 as they suffer an early …
